Not your average doula

Licensed as a midwife by the Medical Board of California and being certified by Doulas of North America(DONA), puts me in a unique position to be expert resource to families in preparing for birth and postpartum. Support is provided through multiple in-home prenatal and postpartum sessions. I do not attend the birth in-person, but instead focus on building confidence and knowledge to get off to a great start. Families booking this service are likely not looking for in-person birth doula care on the day of the birth, but would like expert support and guidance throughout their journey into parenthood.

Pregnancy can be overwhelming. There are many options to consider - from deciding where to give birth to what vitamins you need to take and how you can prepare for postpartum healing and newborn care. Having an expert by your side can make all the difference. I meet with you up to 3 times to discuss your concerns and hopes, create birth and postpartum plans and practice comfort measures. I’m trained in Spinning Babies which can help you stay more comfortable in pregnancy and support a faster labor.

when baby arrives

Within a week or so I visit your family to review your birth story and make sure you are all adjusting well to life with your new baby. Babies get quite a bit of check-up in the first few weeks, but moms are often left with little to no follow-up. As a midwife, I’m there to check-up on mom, review how she’s healing (including checking blood pressure and other vital signs), and perform a comforting belly binding session.

I wrap-up care with a 6-8 week virtual Zoom to review signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety and help you connect to community resources and help create a care plan, if needed.

First time mom and loved the support of Sarah as our doula. I didn’t want more cooks in the kitchen during the birth process but Sarah helped us prepare for pain management, pregnancy questions, etc. and gave me the confidence I needed during a huge shift in our lives.
